Hello,
I am currently developing a set of applications on the Magic Leap 2. The problem I am having is that the device overheats very quickly. When i tried to use the headset outdoors, the temperature was around 35 degrees Celsius, and when I open any of the apps I have developed, I receive a temperature warning in less than 3 minutes. Also, when i tried to test an application indoors where the Temperature was 25 degrees or less, the problem persisted.
Is this expected behavior in such temperatures? Is it something that could be fixed with an OS update (i am currently at OS v1.5, and I would like to delay that as long as possible to avoid breaking my applications)? Is there a possibility of a hardware problem? I always ensure that the air vents are open when I am holding the device.
Additionally, could you advise whether the CPU or GPU is more likely to overheat, so I can make adjustments and see if that helps? Or is there a tool to see temperatures for myself and come back with the data?
Thanks in advance.
Hi @gregkoutsikos,
When you are using the headset outdoors, is it exposed to direct sunlight? The Magic Leap 2 is best used indoors as it can cause overheating. If this is still occurring indoors with a device that has cooled off, we recommend reaching out to our customer care team here: https://www.magicleap.care/hc/en-us/requests/new
It is possible to check out your performance statistics of your app using the Unity Profiler. Does this issue occur when opening up apps like Workshop?
Best,
El
