Ways to reduce overheating device

Hi everyone,

Due to the high temperature recently, we have clients who complain their ML2 quickly overheats and are shutting down while using our application.

We tried a few different mobile phone coolers. They don not fit very well and even though the coolers are getting very cold, it doesn’t have a big impact on cooling the ML2.

Did anyone found a solution for cooling the ML2 in warm environments without having a negative impact on the device itself?

Many thanks in advance.

Are the devices being used inside or outside? What temperatures is the environment reaching?

Inside at a temperature of around 30 °C/ 86 °F due to the heat of the last couple of weeks. It is not a fixed temperature. It also depends on the performance required from the puck. Also sunlight hitting the device through a window per accident on a sunny day will increase the temperature of the device very quickly.

We know that 30 °C/ 86 °F is the max advised temperature to use ML2. Using some kind of cooling device would be great, so they can keep working using our application during hot days inside their factories.

To quote the user manual for Magic Leap 2:

“Use Magic Leap 2 only in a comfortable, safe environment. Magic Leap 2 is designed for indoor use only. To reduce the risk of fire or shock, do not use Magic Leap 2 near water or liquid. Magic Leap 2 should only be used in environments where the ambient temperature is between 10 °C and 25°C (50 °F and 77 °F).”

Is there any way you can cover the windows and keep the device out of direct sunlight?

Covering windows is complicated (including national laws that require a certain amount of daylight to be available withing a factory building). Since these are very large factories and our software is used throughout the whole factory, it would be great if somehow we could cool the device on critical hot days without damaging it.
