Bad eyesight use case

Hi, due to glaucoma my mother's vision is slowly degrading. Currently she has trouble with her depth perception, so she has trouble recognizing when the ground has obstacles or sudden drops or raises. Since I have an IT background, I'd like to build an AR application which will alert her to these. Other ideas I have is detecting traffic, and other potential hazards. Also I'm wondering whether the camera's will be able to provide zoom, so she can zoom in on things she needs to see better or to project things on parts where her vision is better.

Do you feel the magic leap 2 will be suitable for this?

Hey @dimitri.woei

Thank you for the question and welcome to the Magic Leap Developer Forums!

First off, this seems like a wonderful project!!

The Magic Leap 2 cameras support digital zoom (not physical) so the more you zoom, the more pixelated your image may be.

Here are some resources to help you find some features and technical spec's of the Magic Leap 2 Cameras:

  1. This document will provide information on what cameras the Magic Leap 2 has and what they can do
Sensor Data | MagicLeap Developer Documentation

  2. This one will give you a bit more information on the technical spec's of each camera
    Sensors | MagicLeap Developer Documentation

  3. And finally, this document will give you a very technical overview on our Pixel Sensor API and it's capabilities/uses
API Overview | MagicLeap Developer Documentation

I hope this is helpful for you!
Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you for your reply. I have another question. I saw in another post that Magic Leap 1 is end of life, and if I understood it correctly, this means the devices will stop working. Will this also be the case for Magic Leap 2 when it reaches end of life? I wouldn't want my mother to become dependent on a technology that will just stop working when it reaches end of life.

@dimitri.woei

Magic Leap 1 has many dependencies on cloud services. These services are being shut down at the end of this year and is the reason why ML1 will no longer be supported.

The Magic Leap 2 does not have any dependency on these services and will continue to work throughout the hardware's lifetime.

In short, Magic Leap 2, does not depend on Magic Leap hosted services to run.
