What does this mean? Remote Rendering won’t work on headsets? We use Remote Rendering on all our projects, so I need to understand what impact this will have.
Unfortunately, with the deprecation of this feature it means that it is no longer available with a Dev Pro or Enterprise licenses purchased after January 22 2025 (or on an evaluation license). If you have a Developer Pro or Enterprise license that was purchased prior to January 22 2025, you can continue to use the feature but note that we are no longer providing updates.
Huh. Is this why Remote Rendering didn’t work what I updated the OS to 1.12? Are we stuck on 1.11 if we want to use Remote Rendering?
I’m curious, how are developers supposed to make content for the ML2 headset without Remote Rendering? Is there another way to stream content from a Windows computer to the headset that I’m unaware of? Or is this just ML shutting down shop?
You can use the 1.12.0 OS, however since Remote Rending is no longer available on the Magic Leap Hub so you will need to run the service through the command line.
Regarding other ways to stream content, you can try using 3rd party tools like Hololight
Hello, can I confirm we can still use Remote Rendering (for example with Unreal Engine 5) using the command line and ML Hub 3 ?
We critically use the function to prototype our works before device-based optimisation happens (a lengthy process) so this will be a really critical matter for me to solve.
Hi Matt,
If you have a Developer Pro or Enterprise license that was purchased prior to January 22 2025, you can continue to use the feature but note that we are no longer providing updates. Please reach out to our Customer Care team for assistance if you run into any issues and include your license key in the request.
Hi! Thanks for the reply. I’ve been through Support, spoke to three people but then have been ghosted for a week. We’ve got 5 devices, Dev Pro and a couple Enterprise licenses and work with TinDrum who have ~400 ML2s - we made the travelling Ryuichi Sakamoto project “Kagami”. Part of our workflow involves Remote Rendering so it was a huge matter that it’s been deprecated and the binaries seem to not be shared. The Windows-side Remote Render client is the missing piece as that was only installed via the ML Hub so not something I’ve been able to back up - or at least never thought it would be deprecated! we’re in limbo now and support is silent. Terrrrrible !?
I just installed Hub 3 on a reimaged computer and now Remote Renderer package is no longer available on Hub, which means I can’t even launch manually anymore. Where can we get the Remote Render package?
Magic Leap basically went out of business. It sold off all its intellectual property to Google and stopped making hardware. It’s a dead technology. You’ll have to look elsewhere for AR. Personally, I switched to Meta Quest 3 to get me through the year and I am attending CES next week to try to find a viable replacement. Good luck.
Support gave me access and I told them this is a bad move and needs to be undone. They said they will escalate. Idk if anything will happen.
And also idk if thats true, they did raise billions and Saudis are funding to use ML for NEOM, so I don’t think it’s going anywhere.
ML2 is eons better than any XR headset, and faster. It has so much potential. I will not quit on it.
I paid $4000 for this thing hahaha. It’s still amazing everytime. Until that’s an official statement, I assume they are moving resources to ML3 and ML2 as a device is fading.
No shot they are “out of business”
P.S. With AI, I feel unstoppable. I fixed the segmented dimmer, I integrated their Hand Tracking to be normal OpenXR controllers. I have just begun. I did not develop ML2 for a year due to no functioning segmented dimmer in UE standalone apps.
A client of mine inquired about an ML2 demo of mine and to this day he says its the most impressive AR experience he’s ever seen. ML2 still WOWs people more than a Meta Quest etc.
I have been HEAVY vibecoding 24/7 for 6 months now, the second the ML2 was inquired, my brain went !!! I can probably fix the dimmer with AI, and I did in 1 night. My progress with ML2 and what I will do with it just started.
