Hi,

I need to **capture high-resolution (1080p or higher) video from the front camera** on Magic Leap 2 with a **stable frame rate (30fps+ with minimal fluctuation)**. No AR rendering or mixed reality is required—just the raw camera feed.

Given this setup, which method is more **reliable and stable** for my use case?

- **[System Capture](https://developer-docs.magicleap.cloud/docs/12-Dec-2024/guides/features/capture-overview/?_highlight=video#video)**
- **[Magic Leap Hub 3 Capture](https://developer-docs.magicleap.cloud/docs/12-Dec-2024/guides/developer-tools/ml-hub-3/ml-hub3-capture/?_highlight=capture)**
- **Custom capture via Unity (e.g., using RGBA\_8888 format and camera APIs)**

Has anyone compared their performance in terms of **resolution stability and FPS consistency**?

**Environment:**

- Magic Leap OS: 1.12.0
- Host: Windows 10

Thanks for your help!

Hey @yanghouze,

I don’t have any benchmarks for this that I can share, but I can say that just real world camera capture at 30fps+ with any configuration should be feasible for you.

Here’s some specs on what resolutions and what frame rates are supported for each camera stream that the Magic Leap 2 hardware offers:

> **[Camera2 | MagicLeap Developer Documentation](https://developer-docs.magicleap.cloud/docs/guides/features/android-camera/#main-camera-stream)**
>
> The Magic Leap 2 supports the Android Camera2 NDK APIs. With Android Camera allows developers to capture real and virtual content inside their applications. While the Magic Leap 2 has only one physical, it is presented as 3 separate devices in the...

Note that with higher resolution, more memory and processing power is required. As such, performance will degrade accordingly with each captured/saved frame.
For example, capturing 1080p @ 30fps will be more performant and reliable than 4k @ 30fps.

Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Best,
Corey
